Jaguar intends to enter the electric car segment with the I-Type and I-Pace

Autocar has brought us the information that Jaguar has registered the names I-Type and I-Pace for its future electric vehicles. Before getting into the information itself, it is worth checking and analysing the image below.

All large luxury carmakers know that, if they take too long to offer electric vehicles that are able to compete with the Model S, they will lose a lot of ground in a very profitable market segment. While all of them have lost from almost 17% to 5%, at best, Tesla has registered an increase in Model S sales of 51%. Putting it in simpler words: or you offer a desirable electric car or you are going to fight for the crumbs while Tesla eats all the main dishes.

With that perspective, Jaguar has registered the names we have already mentioned. The I-Type will be the sedan version, most probably, while the I-Pace will be the electric SUV. Jaguar is expected to reveal it in 2017, a little before it is put for sale. The SUV is said to have styling cues from the C-X75 Concept. We would much rather have the C-X75 production version, but Jaguar has already thrown the towel on building it.

There is no more information on the car, but prepare for many news regarding new electric luxury cars. Anyone that ignores this trend will be surely electrocuted.
