Facing a massive success in India with its new A segment car, the Kwid, Renault has seized the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo to show two concepts of the new car: Racer, a sort of a RS version of the car, and Climber, its Stepway version.
The Climber has a higher ground clearance.
The Racer uses 18-inch wheels with low profile wheels.
As it has happened with the VW Ameo, these are the only relevant pieces of information on the entire release about the concepts. What is going on with Public Relations departments in India? We need data, gentlemen!
Apart from the concepts, Renault has also revealed the Kwid will have a 1.0 3-cylinder engine besides the 0.8 3-cylinder already offered for it, with the 5-speed Easy-R automated gearbox as an option. But there is no information on this new engine as well…
The Kwid is 3.68 m long, 1,58 m wide, 1.48 m tall and has a wheelbase of 2.42 m. It has been considered by the Indian specialized journalists as a very roomy little car, something that is easy to explain due to its height and to the high H point, or else, where the hips are located when the driver seats in the car. The higher it is, the more space the car seems to have, even with a very short wheelbase. The trunk can carry up to 300 l of luggage.
In India, it is equipped with a 0.8 3-cylinder engine that generates 40 kW at 5,678 rpm (they can be pretty precise when they want, can’t they?) and 72 Nm at 4,386 rpm (amazing!), enough for the car’s light weight of only 660 kg. For the South American version (it will be exported to many countries from Brazil), the car will get Sandero rear-view mirrors (a way to save money, since the Sandero is also produced in Brazil) and a flex fuel engine.
