BMW celebrates its 100 years with an “I, Robot” Audi-like car, the Vision Next 100 Concept

Lamborghini has just celebrated the 100th anniversary of Ferruccio Lamborghini in great style with the Centenario. BMW turns 100 years old today and it has also chosen to present a car to celebrate. It is only a pity is has not chosen to celebrate its heritage. Instead, it has decided to foresee its future. It has been named Vision Next 100 Concept. And it looks just like the Audi RSQ that was one of the stars of the 2004 movie “I, Robot” Check the resemblance below.

Even its doors open in a similar fashion. And the Vision Next 100 is also an autonomous vehicle. Yes, that may be something will demand and prefer in the future. It may be supersafe to ride. But it isn’t something you would expect from a brand that has always been praised by the driving dynamics of its cars. But it comes as no surprise after BMW has adopted the UKL platforms and what it has done to the second-generation X1. Front-wheel drive is not that bad, after all, is it, BMW?

Apart from the front end, color and the windows that have the same color of the body, as the Opel GT, the Vision Next 100 shares Audi’s vision of the future. It is 4.90 m long and 1.37 m tall. It has a very low drag coefficient of 0.18, with a body that is made of carbon fiber, plastics and 800 red triangles that light up to warn the driver about dangerous situations and to signal in an intuitive way, according to BMW. The company has named these triangles “Alive Geometry”. Check it in the video below.

As you may have seen, the car has a joystick for a steering wheel. It retreats when the car is in the Ease mode, in which the Vision Next 100 activates its autonomous driving systems, and gets out of its dashboard niche when the driver chooses the Boost mode. And this is pretty much all we have on the concept.

In order to keep celebrating, BMW intends to present 3 more concepts: the Rolls-Royce Grand Sanctuary, in June, a Mini concept and a motorbike from BMW Motorrad. We just hope the other 3 do not get inspiration from what the competition thinks the future will be.
