The Carver One is no more, but its technology lives on

Many readers ask me what has happened to a tilting 3-wheeler named Carver One. Well, despite being reviewed by Top Gear and making the headlines while it was produced, it lived from 2003 up to 2009, when the Dutch company filed for bankruptcy. But the fact is that just the production ended. Carver lives on as Carver Technology, a company that has seen 3 new products use its DVC (Dynamic Vehicle Control) technology. And it is a total pity the Carver One is not around us anymore. Check it below, in case you have never heard of it.

The closest vehicle to bring it back to life is the SunRa One, a chinese trike that was presented in China last year. It was supposed to go on sale right afterwards, but it apparently didn’t. We have tried to contact the company, but have not received any answer so far. It intended to sell between 60,000 and 100,000 units of the electric tricycle every year.

The SunRa One would be 90 cm wide and it has hub engines, one inside each of the rear wheels. And each of them would deliver 3 kW. A disappointing total output of 6 kW, for a 70 km/h top speed and a range that would go from 60 km to up to 100 km. Considering the pictures, the new vehicle could even use the DVC technology, but would never be up to the original Carver One. But the next one, if it ever reaches production, certainly can.



No, you are not seeing it wrong. The PAL-V (Personal Air and Land Vehicle) is also a Dutch company, but leaning on curves is not the most impressive thing it does. It also flies like a gyroscope. The PAL-V is 4 m long, 2 m wide, 1.6 m tall and weighs only 665 kg. It carries 2 people and is powered by an engine that delivers 150 kW, probably a regular petrol combustion engine (the company does not disclose which engine the PAL-V uses).

In land, it reaches a top speed of 170 km/h and it accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 10 s. It needs only 165 m to take off, at a minimum speed of 50 km/h. Flying, the PAL-V reaches a top speed of 180 km/h and it has a range of 400 km. It can land within 30 m. If you prefer to make it tilt on the tarmac, the range increases to 1,200 km. We hope to see a production version of it very soon. Something we are afraid that the next model will ever achieve.


Venture-One Persu

The Persu V3 is a hybrid vehicle that was supposed to be released in 2014. And the company website still presents the same information, what gives us the idea that it is only a ghost and that the project has been abandoned. What is also a pity, since the Persu V3 looked very good, even when it was named VentureOne. All we know about it is that it would use the DVC technology and that it would have a hybrid and an all electric version, according to the images above. In its website, the company stated it would have a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid version, but there was no more relevant information there apart from an aimed price target: US$ 25,000. This may be the reason it apparently died even before a running prototype was built.

We hope more initiatives to use the DVC technology from Carver keep on appearing. We even hope Carver itself starts building its trikes again, so that we can have as much fun as Richard Hammond has had in his test drive with it.
