This is how the new BMW 5 Series will look like, according to BMW Blog

BMW is only a few months away of the official reveal of the 7th generation of the 5 Series, but BMW Blog could not wait for that long. So they have asked Jerry Alvarez to create a rendering on the pictures of the car that have already been taken, under heavy camouflage. The artist has taken the wraps away and the result is the one you can see above. We believe it is very close to the real model.

The new generation, called internally as G30, will probably present some of the characteristics of the new 7 Series, such as laser headlights. We would also not be surprised if the new 5 Series also used the Carbon Core technology, which applies carbon fiber components to the body construction. Just like the 7 Series, it is built over the 35up platform, which is now called CLAR, for Cluster Architecture. It is another way to say the platform is modular. BMW prefers to call the modules as clusters. The new platform will underpin the future 3 Series as well.

We have no information so far on the 5 Series dimensions, but we know its base engine will probably be the 2.0. There were some rumours about the 1.5 3-cylinder, because of the reduced weight for the new sedan (hence the Carbon Core guess we have made), but BMW has apparently ruled that out. The biggest engines should be the traditional 6-cylinder in line, while a hybrid version is also on the works. If BMW presents a 5 Series that looks this good, or even better, it will have a huge impact on the larger scale Mercedes-Benz C-Class sales, or else, the E-Class.
