The line-up expansion plans from Renault for 2016 have recently leaked. And they confirm the presentation of its 1-ton pick-up, the production version of the Alaskan, and a C-segment sedan, the new generation of the Fluence. The plans also mention a new B-segment SUV. Although many speculate on what this new SUV could be, it is the Kaptur, already presented in Russia as a better looking Dacia Duster.
The new Alaskan should be based on the Nissan Frontier, what will make it much easier to launch and present the new pick-up. Both it and the new Mercedes-Benz X Class pick-up should be presented at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The Nissan Frontier is 5.26 m long, 1.85 m wide, 1.82 m tall and has a wheelbase of 3.15 m. It is a double cab, as its siblings should also be. While the Renault and the Nissan should use a 2.5 turbodiesel engine that pumps out 140 kW and 450 Nm a 2.5 4-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 130 kW and 244 Nm, the X-Class should use Mercedes-Benz engines, still not revealed.
Concerning the new Fluence, it will be the sedan version of the new generation Mégane, built over the CMF-C/D platform, also used by the Talisman. Considering the French automaker will have a major event in its backyard, we find it difficult not to see the sedan at the Paris Motor Show as well. The new car’s dimensions are still a mystery, but its engines will very likely be the same ones used by the new Mégane IV, such as the turbodiesel Energy dCi 90, 110 and 165, for the GT version, and the petrol engines Energy TCe 100, 110 and 205. A hybrid diesel version, promised for 2017 for the hatchback version, should also be offered in the sedan. Manual and double-clutch automated transmissions will be available.
It is strange not to find the Kwid presentation in Brazil in this line-up expansion chart. It will happen this year, but this is probably due to the fact that the Kwid is a known product, while the others are completely new. The Kwid is 3.68 m long, 1,58 m wide, 1.48 m tall and has a wheelbase of 2.42 m. The trunk can carry up to 300 l of luggage. It will be equipped with a 0.8 3-cylinder engine that generates 40 kW at 5,678 rpm and 72 Nm at 4,386 rpm, enough for the car’s light weight of only 660 kg, as well as a 1.0 3-cylinder sourced by Nissan, which delivers 57 kW with ethanol and petrol, since it is a flex-fuel engine.
