After the Civic Hatchback was photographed on its way to the USA, Honda must have thought it would be better to release information about it. What was the sense in keeping a mystery over a car everyone has already seen? This is why the company has officially presented it today. With better pictures and more information on the car, even if not all of it. We know, for example, that it will be sold in LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Sport Touring trims in the American market. Above all, we applaud Honda’s decision to sell it only with the 1.5 turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. It produces 130 kW in LX, EX and EX-L trims. The Sport and Sport Touring trims have an output that honors their names: 134 kW. Torque is the same in all versions: 220 Nm.
The car will be exported to the USA from the UK factory and it will not have only that engine. Honda also mentions it will be offered as the Type R, which will probably have a 2.0 turbocharged gasoline 4-cylinder engine able to produce 228 kW, but it will be revealed just in 2017.
It is a pity Honda has not disclosed the overall length of the car, but it says it will be the very roomy, with a 3.48 m³ interior, and that it will offer the biggest rear seat legroom, at 91 cm. And this is pretty much all we know about the new C-segment hatchback for now.
If only it could be sold in all markets Honda operates… In some of them, such as Brazil, C-segment hatchback sales have eroded, what makes it pretty difficult that there will be any investment to produce the car there.
