The BMW X2 Concept will soon become a production model

In January, we have told you that BMW was preparing a new entry-level crossover, or a stylish alternative to the X1. It would be named X2. The Paris Motor Show has confirmed that story and shown us the X2 Concept, a way to introduce the idea little by little. We would say it could help test the market for the new model, but BMW is not really worried about testing it. It already knows it would sell, hence the prototypes that have already been photographed out there.

BMW has not disclosed anything relevant about the car apart from the size of the wheels, 21-inch rims. But we can assume some technical specifications from the relationship the X2 has with the F48, or the X1. Both are built over the UKL2 front-wheel drive platform. The X1 is 4.44 m long, 1.82 m wide, 1.61 m tall and it has a 2.67 m wheelbase. The X2 is evidently lower, to keep up with the coupé crossover proposition. And its production version should use the same engines present at the X1, or else, the 1.5-liter 3-cylinder and 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged options. Considering it has a sportier focus, it may stick only with the 2.0.

We will have more on the X2 in a little time. It may arise at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show or, even more likely, at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. What we are sure is that it is a go. And some will be able to buy one in a matter of months.
