A real ATV: this is the Avtoros Shaman

There are things that do not need to be new to be impressive. Take the Avtoros Shaman ATV as the best example. Many magazines have tested it already. Some even first spoke of it in 2014. But MotorChase was not around at the time. And the vehicle called our attention just very recently. We thought it would be a good idea to share the information (and the video) with you. Check it out.

ATV stands for All Terrain Vehicle. And terrain does not apply to flooded or permanently occupied by water terrains, such as lakes and rivers, but the Avtoros Shaman can handle water as well. With an optional small propeller on the back. At a speed of up to 7 km/h (according to its official website; there must have been some improvement after the video was made).

The Shaman is not fast. Its top speed on the ground is 70 km/h. The right adjective to describe it is “impressive”.


It is hard to speak of the wheelbase of this 6.3 m long vehicle. It has 4 of them. If you count the distance from the 1st axle up to the last, you’ll get a 5.15 m wheelbase. The Shaman is also 2.50 m wide and 2.70 m tall. Ground clearance is of amazing 45 cm and climb and side slope angles are respectively of 45º and 47º.


All its 8 wheels can propel the ATV, what makes it a legitimate 8×8. And not only that: all of them can also turn.

The driver can select to turn only the front axles or all of them. The rear wheels can turn into a different direction, what will decrease the turning radius to only 7.5 m, or to turn all of them in the same direction. This is what Avtoros calls “crab mode”. And the driver selects the way of turning the Shaman in this panel.


You can also choose to lock the center differential. The cabin can be quite intimidating.


There is room for 12 people on the Shaman. It weighs 4,800 kg and can carry 1,000 kg in soft terrains and 1,500 kg in firm ground.

The engine that propels the Shaman is an Iveco F1C, a 3.0-liter turbodiesel that delivers 130 kW and 350 Nm. Its fuel tanks can hold 260 l of diesel. And it needs every drop of it with a 25 l/100 km fuel consumption. At a cost of 8,95 million rubles, or US$ 145,000, it is an expensive toy. If you don’t have that kind of money, you can try to build a scale version of it with the help of Lego Technic, such as Madoca1977 has done in the video below.
