Pïech Automotive has introduced its first car, the Mark Zero, at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. And one of the main aspects of this electric GT was surely the promised battery pack that can get 80% of charge in only 4:40′. The company has given a little more information about this battery technology this Wednesday (8). Despite the impressive claims for the battery pack, what the full press package released reveals is more important. Starting from the image above. It presents another vehicle from Pïech Automotive: an SUV codenamed GT-X. And there will also be a 2+2 currently known as GT-4. The model that you can check in the image below.
All three vehicles have been created over the same platform, to which Pïech Automotive has given no name (or has not disclosed it). Surprisingly, all of them already have their technical data available. The GT-X will be the high volume bet of the company. It will be a 4.90 m long, 1.99 m wide, 1.52 m tall SUV with a 3.02 m wheelbase. The GT-4 will have the same measures regarding the distance between axles and width, but the 2+2 will be slightly shorter, at 4.82 m, and much lower, at 1.25 m. Although it aims to be a sports car, it is only marginally lighter than the SUV, at 2,000 kg. Both the 2+2 and the SUV have a strange structure after the B-pillar. Have a look.
It gives us the impression that the SUV will be a three-door vehicle, but the layered images of the GT-X show what seems to be rear doors. If that is correct, do these aluminium panels behind the front seats move? Are they part of suicide doors? There is no information on the release about that, but these panels seem to be structural and, with that, fixed parts of the body. And that is not the only concern about the SUV: the front end does not seem to be able to house a frunk. And the rear end will also offer very little luggage space, with a tall floor.
The Mark Zero was codenamed GT-2, but it will only reach the market in 3 years from now, as the other two. The battery pack supplier is from China and is called Desten. Its technology does not work with 800V, as the future Porsche Taycan, but with 400V. How can the company claim to have such a low time for recharging? According to Pïech, that happens because Desten has developed a special cell that allows stronger currents to flow without heating. That allows the cells to be air-cooled, what saves 200 kg compared to similar water-cooled battery packs. But what makes this special cell have such an advantage compared to others? We are still to find that out. And, considering the cars will be on the market only by 2022, we’ll probably have to wait a lot to discover.
Pïech’s platform would have flexibility as its main strength. It is said to be able to receive a pure electric powertrain, a hybrid powertrain or a fuel cell to make the car move. Whatever is in demand and considered to be more efficient when the cars are presented.
