The new generation of the Chevrolet Cruze has already been presented its sedan version. The car, built over the D2XX platform, is lighter and counts on much more modern engines, such as a 1.4 turbocharged engine able to generate 113 kW at 5,600 rpm. Now we are waiting for the hatchback version and Motoring has managed to obtain pictures of the disguised prototype. Very lightly disguised, what indicates the car is almost ready for presentation.
Considering it will also be sold in the USA, we expect to see it as one of the attractions of GM at the 2016 NAIAS or pushed a little further, to the 2016 New York Auto Show, in March. The car is part of the Phoenix project, an investment of US$ 450 million for the Rosario plant, in Argentina, to produce D2XX cars. Besides the two versions of Cruze, the factory will also manufacture a C segment SUV, probably the successor for the Captiva Sport. The South American version is also said to feature a 1.5 turbocharged engine instead of the 1.4, in order to have higher torque in low revs.
The new Cruze has a 2.70 m wheelbase and it is 1.80 m wide and 1.46 m tall. These measures will remain the same for the hatchback. The only changes will be in lenght (4.67 m for the sedan), weight (still not released, even if GM says it is 113 kg lighter than the previous one) and luggage capacity (also unannounced). Check Motoring for all pictures of the prototype.
