Hyundai Ioniq is anticipated with official renderings

The Hyundai contender for the Prius, called Ionic, has not been fully presented so far, but it must have made some Toyota executives lose their sleep. Even in renderings, the cars looks much, much better than the new generation of the best selling hybrid in the world. We know it was not that difficult after Toyota decided the new car would resemble the revolutionary, but hideous, Mirai. Anyway, the new Hyundai Ioniq will go beyond good looks.

According to early reports on the car, it will be offered as a hybrid, as a plug-in hybrid and as a pure electric vehicle. Its aim will be much more widespread than only the Prius. Hyundai will also tackle the Nissan Leaf, the Chevrolet Volt and even the Tesla Model S with the new Ioniq.

While we do not have confirmation on the technical specifications, we can use the info provided by the renderings. The Ioniq seems to be a sedan with a tall tail, but spy photos of it reveal a notchback. The interior is quite conventional, with a round central gauge in the dashboard and a clean appearence.

The official presentation of the car will happen in South Korea in January, with following presentations at the Geneva Motor Show and the New York Auto Show, both in March.
