Niro, Kia’s B segment hybrid SUV, will be a miniature Sportage

While Hyundai faces a huge demand for the Creta B SUV in India, Kia is still developing its contender for the hottest car segment nowadays. Even in the USA, where Jeep Renegade, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and Fiat 500X are selling like hot cakes. Kia knows it will arrive late to catch this train. If it wants to seat in a leading position, it will have to offer more than the competition. We already know what this plus will be: hybrid propulsion. But there will be another one: the new SUV, called Niro, will look like a miniature Sportage, according to the recent teasers the Korean brand has released.

Kia has been frugal in delivering information about the vehicle, but we bet it will have similar dimensions to its cousin from Hyundai. The Creta is 4.27 m long, 1.78 m wide, 1.63 m tall and has a wheelbase of 2.59 m. The Niro will probably use the 1.6 already used by Soul, even if we are more inclined to believe it will adopt the 1.6 Kappa GDI engine with Atkinson cycle used by the Hyundai Ioniq. With no electric aid, it delivers 77 kW and 147 Nm. But there is not much reason to try to guess what the car will be. It will premiere at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, which is just a month away from now. Let’s be patient and wait for the technical specifications of the new B SUV from Kia. At least in what relates to its appearance, chances are it will please a large audience.
