A teaser of the new Maserati Levante has appeared today on the internet. Since it has no verifiable source, and it could be just a rendering from a talented designer wannabe, we have overlaid it to patent designs of the SUV that have leaked months ago. And it seems legit. The Maserati Levante will be the first Italian brand’s SUV. It will probably use the same platform that underpins the Ghibli, which has given birth to Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio platform.
With such close relationship to Ghibli, it will probably share its engines, a 3.0 turbocharged petrol V6 that delivers 240 kW or 300 kW and a 3.0 turbodiesel V6 that produces 202 kW. The transmission will most certainly be the 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox already used by other Maserati models. There are also rumors of a 433 kW V8 for the top version.
Its presentation was expected to happen at the 2016 NAIAS, but nothing showed up there. With the teaser, there is an increasing suspicion that the car will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show. Prices are expected to start at US$ 100,000 and Maserati aims to sell around 15,000 units every year.
