The Dutch blog Vierenzestig.nl has revealed the very first images of the new Porsche 911 R. Said to be produced in a limited series of only 500 units, the 911 R is already sold out. And it is easy to understand that: it is almost like a 911 GT3 RS, with its 368 kW 4.0 6-cylinder turbocharged petrol boxer engine, but it is equipped with the 7-speed manual gearbox that the regular 911 uses. In other words, it is an old school 911, for the ones that want to master the car without the help of the more efficient, yet almost independent, PDK transmission.
Apart from the strong engine and the manual transmission, the 911 R uses none of the aerodynamic aids that the GT3 RS presents (note that it has no rear wing). In the interior, another good surprise: Recaro seats with the “pied-de-poule” pattern fabric upholstery, also known as “Pepita”, which was used in the very first 911 cars, from 1963 up to 1973. Funny to imagine a stick shift can now be deemed as a nostalgic element, isn’t it?
Since all of them have already been sold, the car will just be shown at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. If you want one, you will have to wait until one of the owners get tired of it!
