The new Ateca, built over the MQB platform, is shorter than the new Volkswagen Tiguan, a vehicle that uses the same underpinnings. While the Volkswagen sibling is 4.49 m long, the Seat is 4.36 m long. Its wheelbase is also shorter, at 2.64 m, while the Tiguan bears a 2.68 m wheelbase. The Ateca is also 1.84 m wide and 1.6 m tall. Tiguan is as wide as the Seat, but is slightly taller, at 1.63m. More than presenting Seat an entirely new market, the Ateca also show the VW Group strategy with its SUV family. The Ateca could have similar dimensions to the upcoming T-ROC.

When its sales start, in September, the Ateca will have front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants. In the first one, reserved for its cheaper versions, it will have a luggage compartment of 510 l. When all-wheel drive is added, the trunk loses 25 l and offers 485 l.

Ateca’s entry-level engine will be the 1.0 3-cylinder EA211 turbocharged petrol engine. It will deliver 85 kW. The 1.4 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is already widely used by the Golf will also be present under Ateca’s hood, pumping out 110 kW. Even if diesel engines are not very popular in the USA right now, Seat will offer 3 options: a 85 kW 1.6 TDI, a 110 kW 2.0 TDI and a 140 kW version of the same 2.0 TDI.
