Mazda MX-5 Miata is elected the World Car of the Year 2016

Drivers of the world, rejoice! A real driver’s car has won the 2016 World Car of the Year award today. The new Mazda MX-5 Miata, also called simply Roadster in Japan, has been widely praised for its driving dynamic characteristics and rightfully considered as the best among them all.

The MX-5 Miata has recently had a new version added, the MX-5 RF, with a retractable hardtop, also at the New York Auto Show, the same place where the WCOTY award was presented. The MX-5 Miata is 3.92 m long, 1.74 m wide and 1.24 m tall, with a wheelbase of 2.31 m.

This driving machine is powered by 2 engine options: a 1.5 4 cylinder and a 2.0 4 cylinder, both from the SKYACTIV-G petrol family. The 1.5 produces 96 kW and 150 Nm. The 2.0 produces 114 kW at 6,000 rpm and 201 Nm at 4,600 rpm, mated to 6-speed manual or automatic transmission options.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata has beaten 22 contenders and, in the final round, the Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC. The WCOTY has also named the Audi R8 Coupé as the 2016 World Performance Car, the BMW 7-Series as the 2016 World Luxury Car and the Toyota Mirai as the 2016 World Green Car.
