Audi A3 gets its midlife nip and tuck

If you were thinking of buying a new A3, wait a little or ask for a nice price cut. Audi has introduced today the midlife restyling for the third generation of the model, a car that debuted in 2012. This nip and tuck has been very similar to what the new generation A4 has presented: an evolutionary new design, with minor changes. Basically in the headlights and tail lights, as well as the front and rear bumpers.

The changes have also affected the A3 Sedan and the other variants of the car, such as the A3 Cabriolet.

In the interior, the adoption of the Audi Virtual Cockpit is the most important difference from the new to the old model. The Virtual Cockpit is nothing more than a digital instruments panel, with a 12.3-inch diagonal TFT screen.

The new A3 also had a new engine addition, the 1.0 3-cylinder turbocharged engine that powers the Volkswagen Golf and the up!. It produces 85 kW and 200 Nm. The 1.4 TFSI is now called COD (cylinder on demand), and it deactivates two of its 4 cylinders in order to be more fuel efficient. It delivers 110 kW and 250 Nm. The 2.0 TFSI engine now features what the brand calles B cycle, a Miller cycle engine with a different badge. It generates 140 kW and 320 Nm. The S3 does not use this engine, but a different 2.0 petrol unit that counts on 228 kW. There are also diesel options for the cars (a 81 kW 1.6 TDI and two 2.0 TDI, pumping out 110 kW and 135 kW.

Sales will begin in Europe in May and deliveries in June or July. Other markets should not take long to receive the new model as well.
