This is what the Etios should be: Toyota presents the new Vios at the Beijing Motor Show

If you have not read our article on the new Toyota Etios for Brazil, there is something you should know: Akio Nishimura, the EFC platform chief engineer, told me once Chinese clients would never have the Etios because they would be more demanding than Brazilians and Indians. For them, Toyota would sell a car that has been named Yaris or Vios in some countries, such as China. If Indias and Brazilians were Chinese, they would be able to buy the car above, which has been restyled and presented at the Beijing Motor Show.

These pictures, taken by, show the main changes on the car, basically on the front and rear end of Vios. The engines and transmissions are exactly the same ones used by Etios, a 1.3 and a 1.5 4-cylinder powerplant, a 5-speed manual gearbox (now the Brazilian Etios uses a 6-speed) and a 4-speed automatic. Even the main dimension, the wheelbase, is the same: 2.55 m. But the Vios is slightly longer: 4.41 m long, against 4.27 m from the Etios Sedan.

This would be an ideal competitor to face the Honda City, but Toyota has decided otherwise. And it is a pity it has not given up on the Etios for Brazilians and Indians.
