Hyundai is planning to launch an electric SUV in 2018

The Korean automotive press has recently stated that Hyundai is working on an electric SUV for 2018, according to Hyundai-Blog. Details about the new SUV are very few, for the time being, but a Hyundai spokesperson would have officially confirmed the new car, illustrated here by this gorgeous rendering from the Pinterest of Dy Lee.

The latest information available about the new SUV is that it will have a 320 km range and that it will not use the Ioniq platform. What makes perfect sense, since the SUV won’t need a fuel tank or the internal combustion engine that a hybrid or a hybrid plugin. A dedicated electric car platform would offer many advantages.

The new SUV will very likely compete with the Audi Q6, which has also been previewed for 2018. Kia may have its own version of the car. We expect the platform to be able to serve not only SUVs, but sedans, hatchbacks and station wagons as well.
