Renault plans to launch a Kwid family: sedan, MPV and SUV

Renault would be so satisfied with the recent Kwid success in India it would be considering a whole Kwid family, according to the Indian website ETAuto.com. There are project names already used to identify them. The sub-4m sedan, something that makes them more competitive in India due to tax regulations, is being developed under the code LBC. The multipurpose vehicle, or minivan, is known by suppliers as RBC and the SUV has the codename HBC.

Renault would even be developing a variation of the CMF-A platform, called CMF-A+, able to deal with wider bodies and stronger engines, possibly for the SUV and the MPV, which are larger vehicles. The idea is to have a huge front to attack in India the car segment below Rs 8 lakh (US$ 12,000). About 70% of India’a vehicles are below that price target.

These projects will probably suit other markets besides the Indian. The Renault Kwid has already been seen in tests in Brazil and it is scheduled for presentation in some months from now. At least the small sedan and the SUV would be nice vehicles for Renault to offer in Brazil and South American countries as well.
