Mary Barra is set to announce a new investment from GM in Argentina – UPDATE

The Argentinian minister of Finance, Alfonso Prat-Gay, has tweeted yesterday that GM CEO, Mary Barra, would announce today another mass investment in GM’s plant in Rosario. The Project Phoenix, which gave birth recently to the second generation Cruze in South America, has already cost US$ 750 million. And it predicted the production of 3 models: a sedan, a hatchback and an SUV.

The sedan and the hatchback will be the 2 bodies Cruze already has, while the SUV should be a new Chevrolet C-segment model based on the Buick Envision. Will Barra announce the Volt production in Argentina? After all, it is produced over the same platform the Cruze and the Envision share, the D2XX. We will have more news on the investment later today and will update this article as this story develops.

This must have been the faster punishment for being indiscreet ever registered. According to Argentina Autoblog, Mary Barra has only praised the Argentinian government, for having made changes that secured investments. Anyway, she has not said a word about new investments in Rosario. Well, Prat-Gay, it was not this time…
