Bugatti Chiron appears at the Le Mans track and goes faster than the fastest race car there

While racers compete to write their names in the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Bugatti has released a humiliating note for all the race cars. Before the race started, Wolfgang Dürheimer, president of Bugatti, went for a spin in the race track with the Chiron. And clocked almost 380 km/h with it, getting a better time than any of the race cars, according to Bugatti.

This was the official presentation of the car in France. With a near-production vehicle, since the car has will only have its market launch by September. This launch will be marked by the first official delivery, probably to a Dutch customer. The Chiron is 4.54 m long, 2.04 m wide, 1.21 m tall and has a wheelbase of 2.71 m. It is powered by a 8.0 W16 engine with “two stage turbocharging”. This engine generates 1,103 kW at 6,700 rpm and 1,600 Nm from 2,000 rpm up to 6,000 rpm.

One of its most impressive features is the 500 km/h speedometer. Not that it can reach this speed: Bugatti says it is able to top 420 km/h and to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 s.

This traditional parade happens with the Le Mans driver every year. We wonder why Bugatti has not decided to compete, being so superior in performance to the race cars, as it claims. Regulation limitations? Fear of what such a hard endurance test would show about the current development of the car? Bugatti says 200 of the 500 cars have already been sold. It probably does not want to jeopardize the sales of the 300 cars that still do not have an owner. With a base price of € 2.4 million, this is a concern that makes perfect sense.
