The sportier version of the Mercedes-AMG GT R is about to be presented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Anyway, its first official images have already leaked at the German Car Forum. And they show a slightly modified GT.
The GT-R has a modified version of the dry-sump 4.0 twin turbo V8 that powers the GT S. This one delivers 430 kW and 700 Nm. The GT S’s produces 375 kW. With that, it is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 s, while the GT S can do the same in 3.8 S.
The new car will have an estimated price between € 170,000 or € 180,000. The AMG GT is 4.55 m long, 1.94 m wide, 1.29 m tall and has a wheelbase of 2.63 m. Its lowest kerb weight is 1,615 kg, but we expect the GT R to be even lighter.
The official revelation of the GT R brough more tasty details about the car. It is really the lightest version of the GT, weighing only 1,555 kg. Among the weight reducing measures it uses forged wheels and a cardan shaft of carbon fiber. Its top speed is 318 km/h. Its rear wheels present active steering. Up to 100 km/h, they turn in the opposite direction of the front wheels. Above that, they turn in the same direction. Mercedes treats the effect it causes respectively as a shortening and a lengthening of the wheelbase, giving the car a greater stability.
The AMG TRACTION CONTROL has 9 levels of adjustment. The rear differential has an electronically controlled limited slip. The steering presents a variable ratio and the GT R is practically the Hulk. Best of luck for the ones that try to tame it.
