Bristol reveals the Bullet, its 70th anniversary gift to petrolheads

Bristol Cars has been officially created in July 1945, but its first model, the Bristol 400, has only left the production lines in January 1947. In other words, the company is close to celebrate its 70th anniversary. Instead of receiving gifts, the British carmaker has decided to give one to customers in form of a gorgeous roadster named Bullet. We have already shown you images of the car, photographed while shooting the video below, but now we have most technical details to share as well.

The Bristol Bullet is 4.20 m long, 1.86 m wide, 1.20 m high and it has a wheelbase of 2.55 m.

Under its carbon fiber bonnet we can see Hercules, the 4.8 V8 from BMW that delivers 275 kW and 490 Nm. It allows the Bullet to reach a governed speed of 250 km/h and to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 s.

The Hercules has been named after a “14-cylinder, 1,300 hp radial engine” that powered airplanes such as the Bristol Beaufighter, but its original name is N62B48. Bristol and BMW have a very close relationship. The Bristol 400 was only possible due the purchase of manufacturing rights for the BMW 326 and the 328 engine.

Under the hood we can also see the name of the car, an homage to a WW1 fighter plane and also to a 1966 prototype.

The car will be produced in only 70 units, either with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission. The chassis is made of aluminium and only the roll bars are made of high strength steel. The car body panels are made of carbon fiber.

The Bullet will have a starting price of £ 250,000 and every single one will make Bristol a profit. Ever since it was bought by Kamkorp, after a period in administration, this is all we need Bristol to make. It is the only way for it to stand on its own feet for another 70 years and beyond.
