Is Nissan planning a Navara/Frontier SUV? Yes, it is…

The third generation Nissan Navara, also known as frontier, will have its SUV version. Not like the XTerra, apparently, but with the exact same front end of the pick-up. The image above, created by the designer Andrey Kirichenko, has not been made out of the blue. The Frontier SUV is really undergoing tests, as the image below, published by Ferd on Facebook, proves.

The new SUV will probably be a 7-seater, with a body-on-frame chassis. The current Nissan Frontier is 5.26 m long, 1.83 m wide, 1.82 m tall and has a wheelbase of 3.15 m. The SUV will probably be smaller, with a shorter rear overhang. The engines should be the same ones used by the pick-up, with a 2.5 turbodiesel engine and also a 2.5 petrol engine.

It will compete directly with the Chevrolet Trailblazer and the Ford Everest in Asian and in the Australian market. The very low sales of the Trailblazer in the South American market indicate it will not be produced for this market, as the Everest.
