Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is a 550 kW and 5.70 m electric coupé

Some days ago, some of the official images of the new Mercedes-Benz concept have leaked in the internet. Its name was supposed to be Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 and no information came along with the pictures. Daimler has finally revealed the car, close to its public presentation at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance, and provided us with most of the information we wanted. Including the correct name of the car: Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6. In the end, its long hood is a fancy trunk, since the 5.70 m long coupé is electric.

The grille was just a way to convince us the car was a conventional vehicle, with a common radiator. But it is not. It has 4 permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, one for each wheel. We have no idea if they are wheel-mounted or placed in the middle of each axle, but the latter is more likely, considering Mercedes-Benz would like to reduce unsprung mass. The all-wheel drive car has 550 kW available, what makes it accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 s and reach a governed top speed of 250 km/h. Its battery pack, placed underfloor, has a capacity close to 80 kWh, enough for the car to have a 500 km range.

Mercedes-Benz has also disclosed its width and height, respectively of 2.10 m and 1.33 m. Its 24-inch wheels are a development of the aero rims used by the Concept IAA in 2015. In other words, they help reduce turbulence.

The interior of the car has already been shown in the leaked images, but it is interesting in an aspect that Mercedes-Benz has not explored. The seats are fixed, something most automakers would like to do to make cars safer. The adjustments to the seating position are performed on the pedals and steering wheel. In other words, they are the ones that move, not the seat itself, which can just be adjusted in terms of recline angles and height. The windshield is a huge head-up display and the car has an autonomous mode that can be activated whenever the driver gets tired of driving.

The front trunk is fancy not only because of the integrated suitcases, but also due to the compartments for picnic or any other activity this Maybach owner could want to have with its only passenger. In case the batteries are running low on charge, a supercharger can make the car have 100 km more of range in a matter of 5 minutes.

The Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is gorgeous and it could be a way for Mercedes-Benz to do 2 things simultaneously: to bring an appealing electric car to market as well as the Maybach brand back to life. Will it ever make the move? We are not sure it will. But we are sure it should.
