The 5th generation of the Nissan Micra, also called March in some markets, such as Brazil, has chosen a great stage to be presented. In Paris, close to the first plant that will deliver it, Flins. And the car looks even better than the speculative renderings have presented it.
The new Micra is 4 m long, 1.74 m wide, 1.46 m tall and it has a 2.53 m wheelbase. The back doors have their handles hidden on the C column, just like the Alfa Romeo 156. Nissan does not say a word about its platform, so it is very likely the same evolution of the V platform that has underpins the Kicks. The B-segment hatchback has the impressive drag coefficient of 0.29, something only sedans were able to achieve in the past.
The engines announced at the presentation are the 0.9-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged HR09DET, the 1.0-liter 3-cylinder BR10DE, both of them running on petrol, and the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel K9K. The HR09DET produces 66 kW and 140 Nm, while the BR10DE delivers 54 kW and 95 Nm. Regarding the diesel option, the K9K generates the same 66 kW of the HR09DET, but 220 Nm. All derivatives come with a 5-speed manual transmission.
The new Nissan finally adopts a precious lesson the company should have applied much earlier. And it comes from another company of the Alliance. We do not refer to Renault, but to Dacia. B-segment cars are now appealing to families, not only to young people, as a first car, or to families as a second or even third one. This is what Dacia has managed to get with the Logan. The new March, or Micra, is roomier than ever. It is also cheap to build, since it uses the V platform, what can make it competitive even in developing markets, such as Brazil. And it is very good-looking, a prerequisite in most countries. Nissan would be incredibly dumb not to put it for sale everywhere.
